NYFW S/S’14 – Wolcott: Takemoto collection: indie shapes and distinctive colors

Two years ago we presented the spring 2012 collection by Wolcott Takemoto – a fashion label founded by two Brooklyn designers, Joy Wolcott and Natasha Takemoto. This Tuesday we had the pleasure to check out Wolcott: Takemoto’s spring 2014 collection, presented on a cute private party right above the trendy Brooklyn restaurant Isa on 348 Wythe Street in Williamsburg.

Joy Wolcott explained the spring collection is inspired by tiles. The NYC label displayed seven different looks from the 16-piece collection. All the looks were presented by actual friends of the brand that helped through the whole process of building the brand. “It makes sense that they’re representing the clothes,” said Joy.

The colors are bright and interesting (olive green, lime green, white, rusty orange and blue) and the materials are made from natural cotton, cotton linen, bamboo knits and silk. “We like to keep it natural and comfortable,” Natasha Takemoto explains, adding, “We like when the people really like to wear this clothing and feel good in it.” The brand holds to its alternative cuts and indie chic. This olive shirt and white midi pants combination is a favourite of ours – looks casual and simple, yet distinctive.

Talking about favourite designers, Joy is influenced by Martin Margiela’s cleverness, while Natasha mentions Japanese clothing as inspiration. “We have very similar tastes; we have similar ideas. So usually when we come together it’s pretty easy.”

It feels like the label likes to keep things very warm, personal and cosy. The launch party felt very casual, yet fresh and artsy: very Brooklyn. The guests were sipping on wine, beer, refreshing Takemoto punch made with rye whiskey, cucumber and limejuice, and were listening to some intriguing tracks, among which we recognised the Twin Peaks theme song.

Both Joy and Natasha were rocking designs from their autumn collection which will be available on the e-store they’re launching next week.

Well, to wear this adorable white top and blue mini pants we have to wait until February.
