Baklava. Free. On May 11th. Watch!

I’m happy to announce that one of my favorite Bulgarian movies (and one of the most provocative ones for sure) – BAKLAVA by Montreal-based director Alexo Petrov will be FREE to watch and optionally download. Only for one day though – on May 11, 2013 at 0:00 the full directors’ cut is gonna be available via Youtube on web address http://youtu.be/zpjm0q6Aw2g. This is happening a few days after the world premiere of the film on DVD in the online stores of Amazon.com and CreateSpace.com.

The day is carefully chosen as well – this is the “reflection day” before the elections in Bulgaria.

“Since the film calls for reflection and would most certainly be reported by “concerned citizens” to the authorities, we ask the Bulgarian torrent community : “Please, download and share this film before it’s flagged and removed from YouTube. Entirely illegally and free of charge! Thank you!” – Alexo says in a statement.

Why so late and why right now?

“The answer to this question most likely lies in the bottom of the Bulgarian political cesspool. Seven years after its making, this banned film phantom still gives people shivers and it’s up to date as much as it is a product of its time. The debate is still alive – we expect your comments, opinions, reviews and especially your thoughts on what is really happening in Bulgaria. On the streets, in the slums, on the bus stops, on the TV screens, on the pop-folk concerts in bustling stadiums, in the bars and behind the bars of orphanages and abandoned children homes…” – he adds.

Baklava follows the search of a buried treasure of two brothers – Djore and Kotze – while they travel and explore post-communist Bulgaria. The flick created a huge scandal in the country and was banned for over 5 years.  Here are couple of videos from it as well as its IMDB page. I highly recommend to anyone – Bulgarian or not – to take this opportunity and enjoy that gem, showing an outrageous bit of reality and magic.

you have to use some app like download helper on mozilla for example. Hit me up on mdechevska@gmail.com and I can figure out something (if you couldn’t see the movie) or else. ^_^
