NYFW S/S ‘14 – Rebecca Minkoff: the downtown romantic goes to Latin America

New York-based designer Rebecca Minkoff showed a highly anticipated spring/summer 2014 collection in Lincoln Center on Friday. Her new looks are influenced by famous Latin American women, from Bianca Jagger and Frida Kahlo to Carolina Issa and Alice Dellal.

The clothes have comfortable, airy tailoring and feature a lot of white, gray and pastel colors, Latin-influenced textiles, the so-trendy for the season yellow, as well as beautiful embroidered flower details. All this romantic Latin vibe is mixed with classic American sportswear; we can see black mesh over silk dresses, thick laser-cut leather with macramé lace and draped chiffon with sport striping.

We really love this playful look with mesh stitch track black jacket, “Let’s go to Mexico” t-shirt and lace yellow skirt. Among our other favourites are a black floral embroidered silk dress, laser-cut leather dress in aloe and embroidered silk “Mora” top in chalk, combined with silk “Reyes” skirt in black, as well as the beautiful flower prints on silk, shown at the end of the show.

The clothes were paired with backpacks, eclectic jewellery and knee-high gladiator heels, and the make-up and hair looked natural and soft.

During the show, the fashionistas were enjoying a soulful performance by R&B/pop singer Janelle Monae, who presented songs from her upcoming album The Electric Lady. On the first row were fashion journalist Louise Roe, “it-girl” Olivia Palermo and Hollywood actresses Jamie Chung, Jessica Lowndes and Zosia Mamet.

If you’ve missed the show, you can stream it now from Rebecca Minkoff’s website.
