The impeccable insanity of The Liza Colby Sound @ Arlene’s Grocery

There are the kind of bands that remind you of a music icon at a glace on Google images. Which you expect to see in a small venue and think they haven’t created anything new, neither alter the genre nor take the place of their superstar look-a-like.

But when you see them perform the feeling you get from their concert is greater than seeing “a rock hall of fame resident,” because you already love what has been done before them and realize you just danced with the legend to become.

One of such bands is the Liza Colby Sound, which rocked at Arlene’s Grocery on July 10. Yes, the scene in the Lower East Side has changed greatly in the last 20 years, but it doesn’t mean that wooden scaffold of the new construction on the streets taking over the neighborhood dictates a different approach and quality to those keeping it real underground.

The means are new (an iPad going around to build fan base,) but the goal of liberating yourself through performance is the same. The way of Liza’s band getting love back for her stage presence is what has been appreciated and works every time. Her talent a.k.a the wall of sound coming at you from her sexy gap tooth mouth & signature hip-shaking dance moves in a cheetah print one piece bathing suit paired with black silk stilettos got me excited.

As soon as the first song – “Being The One”  began Liza walked off the stage to dance with a girl. She got down on the floor, bending backwards with the microphone, jumping to to rhythm and flirting with the crowd.

The guitarist Adam Roth showed his Gibson, as the drummer shouted “the man himself gave it to the motherfucker!”

Grabbing the tambourine Liza introduced band members and asked to hang with her over whiskey after the show.

Business types holding Prosecco parted away to let the punks come through and dance, while taking off their shirts.

When Liza announced it was the last song, “Ten more! Ten more!” people shouted.

Lights became brighter and more colors gathered in a constellation around the room, as the disco ball rotated until the end of he show.
