There isn’t a soul on the planet who is going to mistake King Pizza Records annual barnstormer PizzaFest for Coachella, but if you talk to King Pizza founder Greg Hanson you will quickly find that glitz, glamor and money were never the point in the first place. All the Brooklyn based cassette tape magnate hopes to accomplish with his 3 – Day do – it – yourself music festival is making sure his scene has a good time listening to quality tunes, and munching on some of the best pizza on the planet.

When asked if he could ever see his band The Mad Doctors playing one of New York’s premier venues like Webster Hall or Irving Plaza Hanson ardently answered in the negative. When he was asked if he would ever even want to, his “no” was just as steadfast. The reason being is all he and his royal facacia comrades want is a little niche for themselves in the giant nearly 3 – million person borough that is Brooklyn.

For their third offering of PizzaFest Hanson and his cohort have pegged three venues to host two nights and one full day of fuzzed out fun including The Archeron, Pet Rescue, and The Gateway all of which will be outfitted with “gooey” local pizza according to the shows facebook page, as well as Sixpoint beers to wash down the cheesy goodness, and also exclusive Pizza Fest artwork made by friends of the label.

But no one is paying $6 on Thursday, $8 on Friday, and $10 on Saturday to get into a venue eat pizza, peruse the art and drink beers. Pizza Fest is also bringing out their biggest lineup to date with more than 20 bands from all across the Eastern United States.

On Thursday at The Archeron to open up the festivities The Nuclears are going to be heading up a bill that also includes Coach N Command, Dan Soto and the High Doses, El Silver Cabs, and Rich Siebert with music kicking off at 8 p.m.

For Friday’s helping of PizzaFest music is starting a bit earlier with a 7 p.m. Go time and two more bands. Heading up the bill at Pet Rescue will be Brooklyn based psych winnebago rockers Sun Voyager joined by Lumps, Deadly Lo Fi The Unders, Stuyedeyed, and Mammoth Spirit. To be honest there isn’t a slouch in the bunch, but assuring attendance for Stuyedeyed and their electric front man Nelson Espinal would definitely be a wise decision.

Then to close out the revery on the festival’s big Saturday when people finally won’t have to work before attending the King Pizza crew has the show sparking up at 3 p.m. At The Gateway with more bands than the other two days combined. Heavy psych rockers in the vein of Thee Oh Sees Vamanos! Will be closing out a bill that also included Hanson’s The Mad Doctors, Rat Hammer, Heavy Temple, Heavy Flow, The Rizzos, Jacques Le Coque, Thee Creeps, Holsmnts, Super FM, St. James and the Apostles, Dark Wing, Garbage Brain, and Psychic Baus.

The event will also feature local comedy as well as hosts Principal Soto and Casey Raygun.
