Piano Magic – Life has not finished with me yet

I’ve listened to a lot of the new production especially in the alternative/indie rock/goth/shoegaze genres in the past couple of days. From all the albums that I heard one really left its mark on my mind – and more important – made me listen to it over & over again.

Piano Magic – Glen Johnson & like-minds’ project, always sounds different. Different in an album-to-album dimension and different compared to anything else – from the ambiance in “(Music won’t save you from anything) but silence” from “Writers without homes” issued by the cult label 4AD through the poppy sound of “Love and music” from their 2005’s work “Disaffected”, their songs capture darkness, beauty & profoundness.

The new album under the Piano Magic seal explores neofolk influences through modern electronic beats. The vocals, both male and female, are hypnotic, the lyrics are pure poetry and the atmosphere is gloomy yet full of light.

Here are two of my favourite songs from it:

1. “Judas”

Your name is assured in the history books
The ink it has settled, no fear
But do not for once grow attached to your throne
The price of betrayal is dear
The weight of the power, corruption and lies
Has broken the strongest of spines
The crown that you wear, it may seem a good fit
But thorns, they will spite you with time”

2. “The slightest of threads”

“She looks back at the lover
But he dreams of another
The violence of his breath
Betrays his gentleness
And their minds have never met
It’s always been just sex :
The finest of chains
The slightest of threads”

However, the album is best consumed in its full entirety. It’s available in Spotify & in Amazon.
