Odonis Odonis @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar

Last night was great at Brooklyn Night Bazaar! We went to see Odonis Odonis – the brainchild of Ontario’s multi-instrumentalist/filmmaker Dean Tzenos, known for its distinctive mix of shoegaze, punk, industrial, surf rock and noise. I loved it! Despite the short half-an-hour long set, I must say that it was one of the best performances I’ve seen in a long time.

After the show I had the chance to chat with Dean, who revealed a little more about Odonis Odonis’ upcoming album.

What brought you to Brooklyn Night Bazaar?

We got invited to come play here and we find it a good idea. I actually had no idea what it was – about the whole “eco-system” in here. It’s pretty interesting.

What does a Canadian like you think about Brooklyn?

I was just having this conversation. Toronto to me is a lot like Brooklyn. I have a very similar feeling in both cities, just Toronto is may be a little bit more chill.

How do you plan to spend the day tomorrow?

We have to go back to Canada…

What’s coming next for Odonis Odonis?

We have a record coming out on April 15th. It’s called “Hard-Boiled, Soft-Boiled”. The first part is post-punk/industrial, inspired by bands like Skinny Puppy, early Ministry and Wire, while the second one is more shoegaze/dream-pop – think for New Order and Slowdive.

That sounds great! One last question – what are the Canadian bands we should keep our eyes on?

Graze, The Beverleys…

So we can’t wait to hear Odonis Odonis’ new album. Meanwhile – here is one more killer track from them + some photos from the event. #BangBang
