no:carrier – “Wisdom & Failure”

German/Californian “Electro Noire” duo no:carrier are back with their new album “Wisdom & Failure” exploring the connection between these two complex feelings. This is singer Cynthia Wechselberger and keyboardist/producer Chris Wirsig’s third album after the critically acclaimed “My Own Dream” in 2004 and “Between The Chairs” in 2010. The band was created much earlier – in 1995 in Germany but exists in it’s current line-up since 2010. It’s an American-European music affair – Chris lives in San Francisco, while Cynthia still resides in Germany. According to the artists the new album “tells stories about hurtful memories, fears for the future, tragic destinies and strong personalities”.

A must-hear (and see) is the first single from it – “Last Scene”, standing out with haunting female vocals and a very cool artsy video:

I love the conceptual idea behind “Wisdom & Failure” – the protagonists keep looking back, haunted by the ghosts of the past. Hurtful and dunning memories of past events (“Last Scene,” “Alone Now”) stand next to strong characters that carve their own path (“Let Me Walk Alone,” “Losing Sight Of The Coast”) amongst tragic stories about failure (“The Nine Days’ Queen,” “Sunset Castle”). But above all else remains wisdom and strength, both of which can arise from failure (“Wisdom And Failure”). “It’s about being strong, fighting against adversities. You look back, you learn from the past, and maybe you also despair of it. But you stick to your intentions, do what you want, and you go for it, regardless of what others say, regardless of which opinions you hear, regardless of if you’ll succeed or fail.” Chris explains.

Another highlight is “Confession” with it’s vibrant darkwave electronica, dreamy vocals and hushing back-vocals.

The cover art, created by Californian artist Cassidy Bliss Cooper portrays beautifully two girls called Wisdom and Failure in watercolor.

The band is set to do a tour/art exhibition in California to celebrate the launch of the new album and in the fall of 2014 is heading to Europe to present it.
