Luscious Jackson @ The Bell House

Getting its name from the now retired basketball player Luscious Jackson, the 90s alternative/funk/hip-hop band is far away from retirement and it proved that with an energetic and highly interactive show at Gowanus’ venue The Bell House this Sunday.

First couple words about the venue – yes, it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere and yes I’m growing a little skeptic about the growing like mushrooms after rain venues in the more and more overrated Brooklyn, but hey it’s actually pretty cool. The lofty hall with its glamorous chandeliers and very comfortable “VIP area” left me a very good impression. The sound was very good, the drinks were reasonably priced (6$ for craft beer drafts) and the layout of the scene more horizontally towards the audience than “lengthy” allowed better exposure. And I can say that Gowanus is way cooler than Billyburg now.

Now about the show. The venue was packed which is always good. Luscious Jackson opened with “Here” from their second album “Natural Ingredients”, followed by “Daughters of the Kaos” from their breakthrough record and “Show us what you got” from their 2013 album “The Magic Hour”. Fourth was their biggest hit “The Naked Eye” and the hall was exploding with joy!

One of the funkiest parts of the show was when Jill Cunniff and Gabby Glaser invited first the guys from the audience to go on stage and shake their ass on one of their songs (we have video to prove it):

Or played instrumental on which the audience had to scream when they say go! and stop when they say so. Awesome! The full playlist of the show is bellow. And some more pictures:
