Lenka @ Le Poisson Rouge: Heaven on a lollipop stick

Aussie pop singer Lenka played one of the most adorable and cute shows I’ve ever experienced at Le Poisson rouge on Wednesday. You’ve probably heard her hit single “The Show” which was featured on a bunch of commercials and was a promo for the third season of “Ugly Betty”. And yes – we were all waiting for it, but as good as it is it wasn’t the highlight of the show. Just cause the show was really damn good from beginning to start, so good that you will find your head swaying over her catchy pop tunes, even if you’re totally not a head swaying person.

Lenka says she wants to make music that will work as mood enhancer to people and all her songs are positive, ridiculously cute yet very well written. And isn’t that a wonderful cause, especially now when the pop culture digs deeper and deeper in darkness (look at Rihanna’s BYBHMM for example) and knowing that it’s scientically proven that music reflects so much on us.

Lenka has amazing stage presence – cracking up seriously funny jokes, playing keyboards or just dancing and swinging around or calling the three guys that play with her on stage “The Goslings”, “cause you can never have enough Ryan Goslings”.

One of the funniest moments was when she played the song “Two hearts” and asked if there’s anybody pregnant in the audience and that we should all prepare for a rebirth experience. Among the songs in her set list were “Heart skips a beat”, “Nothing here but love”, her brand new single “Unique”, “Go deeper” and a duet with British singer-songwriter Nick Howard – “Stuck like a glue”.

She left the stage after playing “The Show” just to come back with three more songs – one of them the opening “Blue Skies” which the audience had to pick what genre to be played on, the options being country, swing/jazz, rnb, bossa nova and reggae. And I was kind of hoping for metal or rock… but the reggae one that that got the most voices of the public was a lot of fun too.

Overall great show, that turned me a little or more into a fluff ball of happiness (and I absolutely loved it).
