Kid Tested @ Fort Useless

It was really great to go and see Kid Tested – the alternative rock band fronted by Flowers In A Gun’s contributor Shawn Mishak – play at Fort Useless. I’ve never heard or been at this venue before and I have to say it’s tiny. So small that it reminds of a living room where someone randomly threw a show and exposed some artwork. At the beginning you notice that everyone is bumping into everyone – even if you’re less than 50 people – but then it feels cozy and very underground-ish so I have to say that I dig. It’s located in Bushwick/Bed-Stuy or as it’s hip to say now BedWick (lol!) – right into very happening and thankfully close to where I live area. Enjoy some photos from the gig + interview with Shawn himself. My review on Kid-Tested can be found here and Shawn’s work for the blog – here.1 2 IMG_2357 IMG_2362 IMG_2363 IMG_2364 IMG_2368 IMG_2369 IMG_2370 IMG_2371 IMG_2373 IMG_2384IMG_2387IMG_2392IMG_2401IMG_2402

So Shawn how do you feel after the show today and how did you end up playing here?

I feel a little relieved cause I was kind of nervous, but overall good – I like small intimate artspaces like this.

How did you find about this place?

Through Max from Quiet Loudly. This is one of our last shows in NYC and we have one more coming up at the end of next month.

Would you leave Ohio to come and live in NYC?

I would if the rest of the band does, but they have “real jobs”.

Do you like NYC more and what’s the charm of Ohio?

I think Ohio is really manageable financially and has an awesome art & cultural scene. I like New York and I visit it a lot but I might get involved in too long nights of drinking here and this might be dangerous for me.

And what is Kid-Tested working on?

Actually we’re recording two new albums coming up in couple months. We already recorded 8 more songs that didn’t fit in our last album, so we’re gonna finish that up and put it in a record. Then we’re gonna do 14-day tour in the Northeast. And record one more.

What’s the name of your next album gonna be?

Not entirely sure but I have two ideas – “Midnight Canoeing” or “Unwanted food and miscellaneous gross”.

What’s the next thing you’re going to write for Flowers In A Gun?

I’m working on an article for a band called Insurance Salesman.

Which are your favorite Ohio bands?

I really like Uno lady, Megachurch, Insurance Salesman, Goldmines who are formally Cha-Cha-Cha…
