The electronic/ambient/experimental duo from Italy DK5600, who won our Band of The Week contest, delivers noisy, yet quiet sounds, that will please the fans of obscure dark ambient. Created by ARS A.V.I. from Rome, responsible for the voice, lyrics, sounds elaboration, noise and samples and CircumLiver from Trieste on synthesizers, there’s not much info about the band online, besides the fact that their music is tailored for “the planet Katrias”. Here is what they said in an exclusive post-winning interview for Flowers In A Gun, in which they remained pretty laconic.

In your Bandcamp page you mention “electrical installations and soundtracks for the planet Katrias”. Tell me something more about this planet?

Katrias is a fictional planet that is 5600 light-year distant from Earth.

What does DK5600 stands for?

The name of the band has few meanings: DK5600 is an old technical directive by ENEL (the largest electricity company in Italy) about the electrical distribution in medium voltage. But also mean “Distanza Katrias 5600” (eng. Distance Katrias 5600)

You use a lot of noise and whisper in your music, why do you pick using these components?

Why not? ….  Maybe because we like it 😉

How did you form the band?
I had already worked with Rosanna (ARS AVI) in 2009 on a few tracks for a compilation and last year we decided to continue with the musical collaboration and form the duo DK5600

What’s the experimental electronica scene like in Italy?
The experimental electronic scene in Italy is very active, there are many bands and artists that do this genre/style.

You guys live in two different cities Rome and Trieste – do you meet to record or you do a lot of the work process online?

The work is done online, this is one of the good things of the Web

What are the bands that you like to listen to but people would never guess, knowing the music you make?

I think for me could be The Residents

What are your inspirations besides music?

I get my inspiration from my synthesizers… also from sci-fi (book and movie) and industrial electrotechnics.

What’s coming next for the band? Any upcoming shows?
A Canadian label will release soon our album, and maybe can be a live gig in summer
