Dead Kennedys, Cerebral Ballzy @ Santos Party House, NYC 7/31/2012

Dead Kennedys totally destroyed Santos Party House at the very last evening of July 2012 with their stripped-down hardcore punk. Well Jello Biafra wasn’t on stage, but their  current vocalist Ron “Skip” Greer still did a good job.

Brooklyn hardcore punks Cerebral Ballzy opened. They were pretty cool, however unambiguous reminded of a modern version of Bad Brains.

Frontman Honor Titus’ classic punk “I don’t give a fuck”  attitude really annoyed some chicks behind me which kept shouting “We didn’t came to see you!” and “OMG what an asshole!”, however I continued shaking my head to the rhythm and saying cheers to the big punk guys around me, which were by the way from Staten Island.

Cerebral Ballzy showed up around 9 pm which was more than an hour after the announced show time, but it worked perfect for me as I was (as usual) an hour late too!

After them and after a short break it was time for the headliners Dead Kennedys – the band we all without a doubt came to see.

As I already mentioned the legendary Jello wasn’t singing tonight but I was still super excited to see them as I grew up going to high school with “California Uber Alles” and “Holiday in Cambodia” blasting in my ears.

Dead Kennedys‘ first song was  “Forward to Death” from their debut “Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables” bringing the audience to an ecstasy. After that we heard “Winnebago Warrior”, “Police Truck” and “Buzzbomb”.

I’ll make it easier giving you the full setlist from the show and trying to be as accurate as possible:

  1. Forward to Death

  2. Winnebago Warrior

  3. Police Truck

  4. Buzzbomb

  5. Let’s Lynch the Landlord

  6. Jock-O-Rama

  7. Kill the Poor

  13. California Uber Alles
     Encore:

  14. Bleed for Me

  15. Viva Las Vegas

  16. Holiday in Cambodia
Plus some more photos. Because I know, you love photos.
And cause I’m such a sweetheart I’ll even give you a video of the legends playing “Too Drunk to Fuck”. You love me, no?

The Dead Kennedys/Cerebral Ballzy concert had everything a good old punk show needs – stage diving, people from the public singing on the mic, mosh, drunk punks and tons of electrifying energy. I went home totally satisfied and more important – not too drunk to fuck. Great times, if you have the chance to see Dead Kennedys you still can do it- they just announced new tour dates. Yep. Keep updated on their website.
