Camera Obscura @ Music Hall Of Williamsburg

Scottish indie pop legends Camera Obscura played a bright and mellow show at Music Hall Of Williamsburg. That was their second date in NYC for this summer, on the tour supporting the band’s new album Desire Lines  – the night before they played at Greenwich Village’s Le Poisson Rouge.

Supporting act was surprisingly Nashville’s country singer-songwriter Laura Cantrell with a short but pleasant acoustic performance.

Camera Obscura’s frontwoman Tracyanne Campbel looked perfectly on the right spot at the hot Brooklyn venue. Her voice was sweet and graceful and sounded even better live than in the records. Camera Obscura’s setlist featured a nice blend of songs from “Desire Lines”, as well as old favorites like “Lloyd, I’m ready to be heartbroken”, “Tears for affairs” and “New Year’s Resolution”. Of course, you can’t expect moshpit or crazy energy flowing around on an indie pop show, but it was a fresh and even relaxing experience.

Right before that they announced that today is Laura Cantrell birthday and the audience started singing “Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Laura, happy birthday to you”. “That was beautiful, you are beautiful people” Tracyanne responded.
