Blade Rave // BloodBath @ Terminal 5

It’s Friday night again and while I’m home quietly chilling with a glass of Courvoisier VSOP, it’s nice to remember that I’m not that old (yet) and last Friday was actually bigger, harder, faster, stronger. Blade Rave. To celebrate the kickoff of Comicon BBQ films recreated the cult rave scene from the original Blade Movie – the one in which the vampires party bathed in Blood before Blade comes and kills the poor undead creatures.

The DJ set the was handled by The Crystal Method – one of the most emblematic DJ duos of the 90s and early 00s responsible for the soundtracks of Blade II, Spawn and Lost in Space. The idea is a killer, but was the realization that good?

First there were dancers on stage. And they were ok, but really it could’ve been better. Then right before the kick – there were actors. And the actors were unnecessary. It would’ve looked much better if we were just waiting for the kick in The Crystal Method set and blood started sprinkling all over!

I was imagining (and I’m sure a lot of the people attending were as well) that the blood will sprinkle from the ceilings, from the side or just from anywhere. And wondering how this will be handled I started noticing a bunch of people with backpacks and hoses. I understand that may be that was the easiest way to make it possible, but honestly – it was a bummem the first one. I mean it’s 21st century, I’m sure there are sprinklers and other ways to make it possible than just a bunch of people to hose you down.

But keeping the place clean was a huge concern of Terminal 5. Once I got off the bloodbath put and I wanted to go back to the VIP area and take some pictures I was stopped by the security who told me I can’t go back there, until I clean myself up. It gets worst – I couldn’t even get a drink at the bar. You were forced immediately to the bathroom and your hands were being stuffed with paper towel once you try to move even a step sets from the designated area. I’m sorry, but that’s not my idea of “badass”.

Let the people party then just hire a cleaner to clean the whole venue. Is it that hard? And if Terminal 5 is too “glitzy” for the event – why not just choose a more easy going venue and do it properly there? Another bummer surprise – the party which started around 8:30 pm also finished at 11:30 pm.

For that the vampire enthusiasts had to pay $56 a person and more for VIP. This is a lot money for a merely 3 hour party. And what’s the purpose of that VIP while you can’t even get a drink or return to your place – it gives you the opportunity to watch “without getting messy” – but do you really want to spend $100 for that?

The Crystal Method were right on the spot though and their blend of classic techno, acid techno and grimy old school rave beats was superb. And the crowd was cool, although it was more “ComiCon” than “Vampire”. So yes – the question was not messy in the VIP and missing the action, or missing the VIP and right in the action. I never really cared about the VIP though, so here are my pictures straight from the BloodBath:

Overall – despite the remarks I made above – the party was fun! And was something that you definitely remember and brag about it for long time ahead. 🙂
