…and September begins in Arlene’s Grocery!

September, September… It’s such a sad month to some –   the summer is coming to its end & /if you’re a student/ you have to go to school. However for me the upcoming September is perfectly fine, just another reason to party and swing. So what a better place to celebrate the autumn than a show @ the Lower East Side?

I decided to start my September fun in Arlene’s Grocery.

Actually I ended up there very accidentally. Johann, a cool guy and а talanted singer-songwriter from Denmark, text me to remind that he’s playing in the venue this evening. I was in Midtown – only couple of stops from the club, returning some unreasonable purchases from the last week (God bless the US return policy!) & I was like “Ok, cool, why not, I’m coming”. As always  little bit late, of course, I entered the club. Johann was already on stage. His music was showing the influence of The Stone Roses, J.J. Cale and Neil Young, but there was also a sens distinctive in the northern neofolk tradition. Well yeah, I forgot to mention, he’s also part of the Danish neofolk duo Caught Cat Lark.

Johann was playing till about 8, still shy and sober and I took only this blurry picture of him:

After him there was a band that I never knew the name. They weren’t announced in the program and I think they were with Pablo Blaqk /the next musician/. The no name guys were OK –  trompet, electric guitar, acoustic guitar and mellow female voice, which reminded a bit of Morcheeba. However, I found them a little bit girly and boring so I went out to smoke. Here is a pic of them that I took as an evidence before the cigarette.

If anyone knows the name of the band, please let me know, I always enjoy filling gaps in my head.

Next was Pablo Blaqk himself went on stage. According to his website: “Singer/songwriter born to Cuban parents, Pablo Blaqk picked up the guitar at 18 after his father declined his request for a gun” Wow. Impressive first line, man!  One thing I cannot decline – this guy has the heart for the blues.I mean that guy sang “Lay me down” lying on the floor with some chick hanging out around and on top of him. Honestly. Isn’t that cool?

Another lo-fi phone artefact.

Ladies & Gentlemen, next guests on stage are

Headliner time – Talkie Walkie. Sincerelly, may be I was too drunk then, but I didn’t liked them and I didn’t found anything unique in them. Two more pics and I’m leaving you till my next concert that I feel like writing about, for your (un)pleasure. Ciao, my dear readers! Mucho luv! <3
