I don’t go to metalcore/post-hardcore shows very often but I have to say I had hell of a fun on this one!
When I arrived around 8 PM, the second band on stage – screamo quintet Our Last Night – were just starting their set. I missed ’68, but oh well, that’s the charm of early shows. xD
Formed in 2004 in New Hampshire by childhood friends Trevor Wentworth (vocals), Matthew Wentworth (guitar, vocals), Alex “Woody” Woodrow (bass) and Tim Molloy on drums, just 3 years later Our Last Night signed with Epitaph and released it’s first LP “The Ghosts Among Us”.
The most fun part of the show, which was very high-energy and entertaining, was when one of the band members started stripping over the band’s very popular cover of Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse”.
Even though Our Last Night come a little light to my taste, they show pretty solid songwriting and standing out stage appearance.
Next after came Aussie post-hardcore band Hands Like Houses.
Their set was much shorter and had some seriously amazing lights.
The melodic vocals of singer Trenton Woodley were blended with jamming guitars and a serious dose electronica.
Not my favorites on the bill, but I think everyone had a blast.
Next on stage was the band that I came to the show mostly about – Emarosa!
And as Jonny Craig is great on stage (if the name sounds familiar – he’s the first frontman of Dance Gavin Dance),
I was disappointed that they played mostly new stuff and I didn’t hear anything from their debut EP “This is your way out”, which is head to toe EPIC.
Their set also felt kind of short, but oh well… Still I dig it!
And finally it came time for the headliners Chiodos, who after multiple line-up changes through the years recently reunited with founding frontman Craig Owens.
I can say I haven’t seen the audience going that crazy for a band for a very long time!
The mosh was massive! At one point the whole first floor of Irving Plaza got emptied out just to turn into a huge moshpit!
Pretty fucking awesome! Fans heard songs from the band’s new album “Devil”, including of course the single “3 AM, but also classics such as “Baby you wouldn’t last a minute on the creek” and “The words best friend become “undefined”.
Now it comes time for one of my favorite sections. Bang Bang! Here are some photos that Mario Norena, my partner in crime that night, took of the audience!
oh no, i got my photo taken and don’t see it 🙁
Sorry about that, may be Mario didn’t send it to me… give me a link to a picture of you and I’ll try to find it. 🙂
Hey, Jackie. It’s Mario. Were you the girl in the red dress waiting outside of the club?
